Two days ago Clarivate Analytics announced a partnership with Impactstory to make Open access content easier for researchers to use. Clarivate operates the citation database Web of Science and plans to support the development of Impactstory’s oaDOI-service.
This service identifies 90 million Open Access articles, particularly important is its integration into unpaywall.org. Unpaywall.org offers a browser-plugin helping researchers to find Green Open Access version of paywalled articles.
The press release mentioned above cites Jay Nadler, CEO of Clarivate Analytics, as follows: „Clarivate Analytics is working to enhance research content and discovery with trusted, validated open access links, where they exist, to external, free full text open access versions of the literature (…). This partnership reflects our goal to be an innovative and collaborative brand, dedicated to the sharing of important research within the research community the legal, compliant way.“
The promotion for the oaDOI service is certainly not totally unselfish, as it gives Clarivate the chance to enrich their own data, eg. the Web of Science.
