As mentioned here before a contract study on the qualitative perception of Open Access was completed at the end of last year. The study was carried out as part of the third-party funded project visOA: Making Open Access publications visible in the holdings of a library, funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and conducted by the Leibniz Institute for New Materials (INM). One of the work packages focused on the criteria for the qualitative assessment of scientific publications.
Some days ago an article on this work packages was published Open Access:
Ulrich Herb & Uwe Geith (2020). Kriterien der qualitativen Bewertung wissenschaftlicher Publikationen. Information. Wissenschaft & Praxis, 71(2–3), 1–9.
I would like to thank my co-author Uwe Geith from the INM Library and I think we could contribute to the analysis of the construction of perceived quality of scientific publications. I would also like to publish the text in English if the opportunity arises.
The paper is written in German language but I will provide its English abstract here:
„This article describes
a) the results of a literature study on the qualitative perception of scientific publications,
b) the construction of a catalogue of criteria derived from this study for the perception of the quality of scientific publications,
c) the evaluation of this catalogue in qualitative interviews with scientists from the fields of chemistry, physics, biology, materials science and engineering.
It was shown that the perception of quality is based on external and externally induced factors, content / semantic factors and linguistic, syntactic and structural factors.“
Further data on the empirical study on criteria for the qualitative assessment of scientific publications are also available Open Access.
