Ongoing dissemination for the Knowledge Exchange PID Study

As mentioned in our last post in February, once the report and the case studies were published for the work on the current PIDs landscape and its associated risks and trust-related issues, we are now in the midst of its dissemination activity. This post provides an update on the forthcoming events where this Knowledge Exchange PID work will be presented in the next couple of months, please see the chronologically-sorted list below.

These presentations are also meant to offer a means to receive feedback on all things PID from the wider scholarly communications community. A significant amount of feedback has already been identified, either by specific issues having been raised in direct messages to the team or via comments on social media. We are still in the process of listening to such feedback, but once the dissemination events listed below are completed, our plan is to address the most relevant feedback to the report and case studies we have received/come across in one or more posts devoted to each of the issues.

1. Knowledge Exchange webinar – „Persistent identifiers in academia: risk and trust“

A 1-hour webinar will be organised by the Knowledge Exchange and the Jisc at 3pm CEST on Tue May 23rd to present the findings of the PID study and its associated recommendations for various stakeholders. The event will include a summary talk for the PID study by scidecode team member Pablo de Castro and another one examining its recommendations by Gaëlle Bécquet, Director of the ISSN International Centre and member of the KE PID Task & Finish Group. The event will be moderated by Frank Manista (Jisc) and Josefine Nordling (CSC) as leads for this T&F Group.

The registration form for this KE webinar is still open.

2. EUNIS 2023 Conference presentation

The presentation “The Role of Universities in the Implementation of Persistent Identifiers (PIDs)” will be delivered by Pablo de Castro at 14:45 CEST on Thu Jun 15th at the EUNIS Annual Congress 2023 to be held Jun 14-16 in Vigo (Spain). This talk is part of the session “IT Support for Research (III)” and will specifically focus on the recommendations for research-perfoming organisations (RPOs) made in the “Building the plane as we fly it: the promise of PIDs” report. The presentation will also provide an opportunity to discuss the next steps to be taken – both at a technical and at a policy level – with the universities in the room.

3. ZBW Open Science Conference

The 10th edition of the ZBW Open Science Conference will be held 27-29 June 2023 as an online event by the Leibniz Information Centre for Economics. The event schedule for Day III (Thu Jun 29th) includes a 15-min talk on “Risk and Trust in PID Infrastructures” by scidecode team member Laura Rothfritz. The abstract for the talk is available on the event website linked above.

4. LIBER 2023 Conference in Budapest

This year’s annual LIBER Conference will be held from July 5th to 7th in Budapest (Hungary). LIBER2023 will run under the theme “Open and Trusted: Reassessing Research Library Values”. The event programme for Fri Jul 7th includes the 9am CEST presentation “The role of research libraries in the consolidation the PID landscape” within a parallel session called “FAIR and Open: From Theory to Practice”. Given the large number of universities regularly attending LIBER conferences, the event should hopefully offer a good opportunity to explore institutional plans around PIDs going forward.

All these presentations will eventually be made available from the scidecode collection in Zenodo at https://zenodo.org/communities/scidecode/.
